Technically, the Honda Accord is in a separate EPA class than the Malibu. It’s considered a large car and not a mid-size car, but the two are worth comparing. The Malibu is the more affordable option among the two and among all five sedans actually. That makes the Malibu a top choice as a first car for a younger driver or a second car for a busy family with many places to be. Both vehicles offer the choice of turbocharged four-cylinder engines: the standard 1.5L and an optional 2.0L.
Available in five trim levels: the L, LS, RS, LT, and Premier. The LT is a great option to compare against the Camry. Equipped with a 160-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, this level still beats those other sedans on manufacturer’s sticker price. Plus you get 17-inch wheels, LED tail lights, and remote engine starting. Not to mention heated front seats, acoustically laminated windshield, and power-adjustable driver’s seat. The Chevy Malibu interior is comparable to the Camry but offers more overall passenger space with 102.9 cubic feet of room.
The Sonata is also a large car and not a midsize but the two offer similar gas mileage. However the Sonata base price is over $10,000 more than the Malibu.
