On towing the Expedition reaches higher than any Tahoe, roughly 9,600 lb, though only on a 4WD build carrying the Heavy-Duty
Trailer Tow package. The Tahoe's best is 8,400 lb. On price the Tahoe opens lower, from $60,700 at launch against the
Expedition's $62,700, both excluding destination.
Beyond those three, the lineups differ. Chevrolet gives the Tahoe three engines, a turbo-diesel among them, and seating for up
to nine. Ford gives the Expedition a second body length. Both offer a hands-free highway system as an option rather than
standard equipment, so that feature does not separate them.
-
Choose the Tahoe if: you would rather pick from three engines than one, a ninth seat or a diesel would
change how you actually use the vehicle, or you want big cargo room without the extra length to park.
-
Choose the Expedition if: your trailer weighs more than the Tahoe you want can tow, you want the longest
body of the three and have somewhere to park it, or you are buying gas rather than diesel, where the Expedition returns the
better mileage.
